Hello – my name’s Seán and I’m a Student Journalist at Edinburgh Napier University available for freelance and work experience opportunities.
This website exists to showcase much of the written work I have produced, covering an array of topics including politics, sport, current affairs, and music. I’m passionate about writing and enjoy doing so in different styles and around different subjects.
After producing written and audio content to a high standard, I was asked to become Co-Editor of ENRG Sport. In this role, I help lead a talented team of young writers and podcasters in putting out insightful and entertaining sports content with an added slant of student humour. I edit the work to ensure it goes out to the highest possible standard and manage our social media accounts.
All of my work on the website can be found here, which includes articles on football, MMA and NFL, as well as a special series of Scottish Premiership season preview podcasts with respected journalists and podcasters. I have also covered live games in the Scottish Premiership, producing match reports and analysis pieces.
In regards to podcasts, I host ENRG Extra Time – providing engaged, unfiltered and analytical football debate from Scotland and the wider world of the beautiful game. I have also hosted special ENRG Sport Podcasts with Gordon Sheach of the Tartan Scarf and Craig Fowler of A View from the Terrace.
I also have a keen interest in politics and began writing news articles for Radio Debrief in 2020. I’ve also covered two elections at my time at Napier – the General Election of 2019 and the US President election of 2020, for which I curated a live blog detailing all the events and news as it happened. I found this to be an exhilarating experience, as we got to feel the buzz of a live newsroom and react to the news as it broke. I have also appeared on the Radio Debrief Podcast, covering news and current affairs.
Towards the end of last year, I started a brand new live show on Radio ENRG. Agree to Disagree sees myself and Jessica Matthewson debate the big issues, the small issues and everything in between while engaging with our audience and playing a range of music. The show regularly receives some of the station’s highest numbers.
In the summer of 2020, I successfully applied for the role of Media Officer at Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic Football Club. Alongside my colleagues in the media team, I shape and drive the media output of the forward-thinking and ambitious Lowland League side. This has included social media content, live match commentary, podcasts, match previews, live match updates, match reports, post-match interviews and more.
